Family owned and operated since 1981, our neighborhood boutique real estate company was founded by Anita Thede. Since then, Northbrae Properties has specialized in all types of residential sales in the East Bay and served a diverse group of people with our unique approach that allows us to find our clients the perfect properties. Today Northbrae Properties is run by Christian Thede and his wife Ali, who have merged the old-fashioned family way of doing business with a modern attitude.

In the world of real estate agents, there are many order-takers who will write whatever offers as a means of the shortest path to a commission. Rarest are those who will truly understand your situation and through her/his expertise, make wise recommendations that even you haven’t considered and help you through to make you successful; Christian is such a real estate professional.
My wife and I thought we knew what we wanted: a multi-unit residential building for live and rent. In the process of the search, Christian recommended a lot with three houses. Initially we were not impressed as we would never have considered it on our own. Christian, however, explained how this is beneficial in our specific situation in Oakland’s rental ordinance, with the additional potential of dividing the property.
Fast-forward two years, we acquired the property, remodeled it, and condo-converted it. The road was not easy as this was the first time we took on a project like this, but Christian guided us through the process, especially with the condo conversion. And because he did, we were able to more than double our equity in the property.
We could have gone with any typical real estate agent and closed on any typical property and not know any better; after all, they say ignorance is bliss. But knowing what we know, we’ll always work with and recommend Christian
